Dear All/ Pob Hwyl

Reminder of next meeting Thursday 12th October at 2pm

Speaker: Simon Osborne  Gentlemen’s’ Fashions 1780’s to 1950’s

Simon is an actor and as we saw in his previous presentation about the Police history he enacts his story in places.  I look forward to seeing some of the fashions he speaks of this time even if I can just about remember the 50’s!

 NEWS   –

The Society is in contact with Professor Juliet Davis from the Welsh School of Architecture in Cardiff who have already done considerable research work over the last year or so on the “Making and Remaking of a Welsh Mining Landscape”. The Society hopes to provide several photographs from our archives for the publication.

Beyond this Prof. Davies and her colleagues are still interested in our  archives and  are open to discussion about how/whether the Society can contribute to further research projects and maybe find a “home” for our data.  It is an exciting prospect if we can find some common ground.  Anyone interested get in touch. I can’t give any more firm detail at present but we hope to have a meeting with Prof. Davies and colleagues before too long.

Unfortunately, I have to report the passing of one of our long time supporters and some time member of the Society, Lyn Parfitt. As an attendee at meetings he was valuable for advice and information often arising from his official role in the Valley Community as Clerk of the local Council.  He will be missed.

Cwm Dulais Historical Society News

To all Members

It is with great sadness that I have to report the passing of George Brinley Evans our Society President.  He passed away on the 14th October.

The funeral will be held on Friday, 11th November at Margam Crematorium. The service is at 12.00 noon.

George was a staunch supporter of the Society for many years and his contributions and experience will be sadly missed.

A more detailed reference to his life and in particular his enthusiasm for Cwm Dulais Historical Society will appear in the next Newsletter.

Regards

Tim Fearnside

Chairman
